Malicious attack — what happened and how we responded to strengthen the security of our tools

Published on 07/15/2026

Summary

Between June 23 and July 7, 2026, our website and voting application were subjected to a malicious attack.

Our team responded quickly to protect data confidentiality, bring our tools back online, strengthen their security, and protect our infrastructure.

If you have had no interaction with the association and have not organized a vote on the application, none of your personal data is affected.

Only the following data is affected:
  • Information concerning a few members of the association's board of directors
  • the content of our association's email accounts
  • data from elections created on the application (excluding email addresses, as the current version of the application does not store them)

Our team remains fully available to answer any questions. Contact us.

Warm regards,

The Mieux Voter team

In detail

An unauthorized third party gained access to the association's hosting account, which allowed them to temporarily take our application offline and access our association's email accounts.

The data affected is as follows:
  • Information relating to a few members of the association's board of directors
  • the content of our association's email accounts
  • Data from elections created on the application (excluding emails, as the current version of the application does not store them)
We were able to verify the following points:
  • The application's email sending tool recorded no connections during the period of the attack
  • The CRM recording information from the mieuxvoter.fr website forms recorded no connections during this period
Following the discovery of the incident, we have:
  • Regained control of our access and secured our entire infrastructure
  • Filed a complaint with the authorities
  • Notified the CNIL in accordance with GDPR
  • Strengthened our security measures to prevent such a situation from happening again

The application is now working normally again.

What you need to know

The Mieux Voter application, in its current version, does not collect identifying personal data about its users — no account, no password, no recorded IP address. Votes are anonymous, so no personal data related to organizing a vote could have been stolen, other than the title and the options put to a vote.

If you are one of the association's contacts and have questions, you can write to us via the form.

We apologize for this situation and remain available for any questions.
